When Howard “Quiggly” Chang became a dad, he thought Christmas shopping for his kids would be simple. After all, he wasn’t just any dad—he was a former lead toy designer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, responsible for creating some of the most iconic action figures of the ’80s and ’90s.
But when he went looking for gifts that would inspire his kids in their faith, he hit an unexpected wall.
“I wanted to give my kids something that pointed them to God,” Howard recalls. “Something that would spark curiosity, open conversations, and show them that the Bible is full of real heroes—men and women who were human, flawed, and weak, yet overcame impossible odds through their faith in God. But when I looked, there was nothing. Not one cool Christian toy that could stand next to Ninja Turtles, Transformers, or Star Wars.”
That moment changed everything.
The Gap in the Action Hero World
As Christmas drew closer, Howard’s search for meaningful gifts turned into frustration. His kids could have superheroes, ninjas, and video game legends—but where were the biblical heroes?
“I realized there was a gap,” Howard says. “Not just for me—millions of parents want to raise their kids with faith at the center. But the toy aisle didn’t reflect that at all.”
Then came the spark: What if I took my experience in toy design and reimagined the heroes of the Bible as powerful, collectible action figures kids would be proud to own?
The Origin Story of Ancientz
Howard poured years of creativity, prayer, and passion into the idea. During a season of fervent prayer, he felt God give him a vision: robotic warriors powered by the spirits of ancient biblical heroes.
That vision became Ancientz—named after the “ancients” commended for their faith in Hebrews 11:1-2. Each character—David, Joshua, Deborah, Rahab, Gideon, and more—is designed to look epic while serving as a bridge to conversations about faith, courage, and God’s story.
But for Howard, it’s not just about Christian kids learning Bible stories. His mission is bigger: to show the world that these heroes aren’t relics of an old, boring book—they’re as relevant, inspiring, and “cool” today as they’ve ever been.
“David wasn’t born a giant-slayer. Deborah wasn’t born a leader. They were ordinary people who, through faith, courage, and hope, accomplished incredible things,” Howard says. “That’s the lesson I want kids to see—whether they go to church or not.”
Action Figures With a Mission
When a child picks up an Ancientz figure, it’s not just another toy—it’s a connection point.
It’s a chance for a mom or dad to share the story behind the hero. To talk about courage in the face of fear. To help kids see that faith isn’t just for Sundays—it’s for real life.
Howard also hopes Ancientz will catch the eyes of kids and parents who don’t yet know these stories. “If the Bible references on each Ancientz figure make even one child curious enough to look up that story, I’ve done my job,” he says.
And yes—they’re undeniably cool. “I come from a world where toys have to be cool,” Howard laughs. “If kids don’t want to play with them, nothing else matters. Ancientz had to stand up next to anything on the toy shelf—and it does.”
Where Legendary Faith Stories Begin
As a mom, you know raising kids in faith is more than memorizing Bible verses—it’s helping them see that faith changes everything. Ancientz turns imagination into a powerful way to connect the dots: ordinary people, empowered by God, doing extraordinary things.
Howard’s journey began as a dad searching for something that didn’t exist. Now, he’s built it—for parents like you.
Join the Mission—Bring These Heroes to Life
Ancientz isn’t on store shelves yet—and it won’t be ready in time for this Christmas—but you can help make it happen.
On Tuesday, August 19, Howard and his team are launching the Ancientz Kickstarter campaign, running for 45 days. By backing the campaign, you’re not just pre-ordering toy collectibles—you’re helping bring faith-filled action heroes into homes around the world.

“This is about more than toys,” Howard says. “It’s about giving our kids—and maybe the whole world—heroes who point them to God. And I can’t do it without you.”
